UK advances with new combat drone after agreement between Anduril and GKN (X @GKNAero)
Anduril UK and GKN Aerospace have signed an exclusive agreement to produce the airframe of Project NYX, the British Army’s new autonomous combat drone.
The partnership marks an important step forward in the UK’s land-based autonomous platforms program and strengthens a supply chain that already supports tens of thousands of jobs in the country. GKN will be responsible for manufacturing the airframe and integrating the electrical systems, while Anduril coordinates the expansion of its network of over 100 suppliers in the UK.
The Project NYX was conceived to increase the UK’s military autonomy and reduce dependence on imported systems. In addition to GKN, Archer Aviation will participate in the development, offering expertise in eVTOL technologies and hybrid propulsion to meet range and rapid deployment requirements. Leaders from both companies highlighted that the collaboration combines advanced technology with a consolidated industrial capacity, accelerating the development of sovereign military solutions.
The initiative also has a strong economic and regional impact, particularly on the Isle of Wight, where GKN maintains a large portion of its workforce. Industry and government representatives celebrated the agreement as a boost to innovation and competitiveness in the UK’s defense sector.
Since 2019, Anduril has been expanding its presence in the country, and Project NYX solidifies the UK as an investment hub for autonomous systems, aerospace manufacturing, and AI-based military software.
